About us - Kagyu Dechen Buddhism

Kagyu Dechen Buddhism runs a network of centres and groups in the north west of England offering opportunities for people to learn about Buddhism and practise meditation.

Our main base is Kagyu Ling in Chorlton, Manchester, established in 1975 as the city’s first Buddhist centre. For almost 50 years Kagyu Ling has provided a welcoming place for people to study and practise.

Kagyu Ling’s founder and main teacher is Lama Jampa Thaye, who visits regularly. Over the years the centre has welcomed many renowned Tibetan masters including the 16th Karmapa and 17th Karmapa, Shamar Rinpoche and Karma Thinley Rinpoche.

Kagyu Ling runs regular meditation classes and organises major teachings. Find out more in the events section and the regular classes page. We always welcome newcomers who want to find out more about Buddhism and meditation.

There is also a network of groups across the region who run meditation sessions. Beginners are always welcome. Find more information about local groups on the regular classes page.
